History tends to repeats itself, if we don't learn from it. The problem is the people don't care to educate themselves when it comes to history. They say, ah…"that will never happen here", "that's insane, our government would never do such a thing", and "you're feeding the hysteria for saying that"….I'm sure those same words were uttered during Hitler's rise to power.

No doubt! It does and it is… Many social and political changes often occur, throughout history, during bad economic times. Many tend to go running to their governments out of financial fear; at which point, the government can gain very much power.

You are so right: it drives me nuts when people get so confident to say, "that will never happen here." That is generally the feeling of complacency, which is generally followed by apathy. The words spoken, are often, "that will never happen here," or "what can I do about it"?
Do they not see the writing on the wall? Are they being misled by some false information? Are they not even paying attention at all?
Sadly, as the poem eludes to, people generally do not act until the problem is in their own backyard. And sadly, they too may not have anyone left to turn to when it is in their backyard.
Just the other day, I had a friend say, "The United States is still a better place to live then most countries." While that may be true, I often wonder what it will take for them to see, what is here today, could be gone tomorrow.
And when your family and friends see you sounding the alarm, over and over again, do they not trust your judgment to know that something "may be" going seriously wrong in our country?
Our government is very methodical: with the protection of our constitution, they would not likely kick down our doors, but rather, they will incrementally strip away at our freedoms, and our Constitution.
And that is precisely what these progressives have done, in our country, since the early 1900s.
